YA Storytellers Fun Friday: A Supernatural This or That with Heather Hildenbrand!

Fun Fridays

A Supernatural This or That!
This week is “host a storyteller” post, which I’m super excited about because I love getting to know other authors. I was lucky enough to get paired with Heather Hildenbrand, who is SO sweet (she called me gorgeous, teehee! You wanna talk beauty, hoo wee, that girl is gorg!) and talk about a wickedly fantastic sense of humor. Her answers to our Q&A are hysterical! For my answers, you’ll have to visit Heather’s blog here!

1. The one you choose lives. The one you don’t is stuck with Elena forever: Stefan or Damon?
I choose Stefan. Mostly because I’ve done the bad boy thing and I really don’t want to have to worry about whether my boyfriend killed anybody today. Seems kind of exhausting.

2. You have to pick one meal for the rest of your life: Blood-sucking or face-eating?
Face-eating seems more filling. I don’t even like soup.

3. Flying or mind-reading? Flying!! In the meantime, I ride motorcycles.

4. Do you want to attack Mordor (Lord of the Rings) or take on an entire army of Death Eaters?
Mordor for sure. As long as I don’t have to run with those little hobbit-feet.

5. You’re in Wonderland and you have to choose: would you eat the cake or drink the juice?
Cake! For some reason, magical food is so much more trustworthy than magical drink. #feelslikearoofy

6. Let’s say you’re thrown into the Hunger Games – what weapon do you go for, bow and arrow or big sword?
Bow and arrow. I don’t want to have to get within touching distance of my enemy.

7. The Winchester brothers take you on a hunt and decide to split up – go with Dean or Sam?
Okay, don’t unfriend me. I don’t watch this show. It’s too scary! #chicken But from the little bits I’ve seen of it, I would choose Sam. He’s the #niceguy isn’t he? #mytype

8. Out of all the Deathly Hallows, which one would you keep: Cloak, Wand, or Stone?
Cloak! Idk why. I like jackets.

9. The power to wield and control fire or ability to transport anywhere at your will?
TRANSPORT!! I hate rush hour traffic. If I didn’t work from home, I’d probably have to be a stripper. So I could work nights. #notrafficatfouram #winning

10. Witchy powers or ability to help ghosts move on to their next life?
Witchy powers. I’ve been tinkering with Wicca for a bit. It started out as research for a book and now I just love the energy of it and the respect for/admiration of nature!

How to RULE the World
by Jersey Clifford

I am not writing this article as a recommendation that you should try to conquer the world.  That would be ridiculous.  You, a mere mortal, building an army strong enough to rule the earth?  I think not.  If you knew anything worth knowing, you would know that human beings are near the bottom of the food chain.  There are vampires (which I loathe), shifters and wraiths (both make good servants), and my kind.

I am a werewolf.  Being the first in any species gives you a unique perspective.  Ordinary werewolves are notoriously stupid, some illiterate, and they cannot control their rage.  I, on the other hand, have become quite zen over the centuries.  I can stand back, assess a situation, and know exactly what to do.

The first thing someone in my position needs to do to prepare for taking over the world is to build an army.  Yes, I am turning mortals into werewolves right and left.  They may not be smart, but they are ten times stronger than people.

The second thing I need to do is make a treaty with vampires.  Yes, I know.  It sounds unappetizing, but vampires aren’t all bad.  Take my new friend Jack, for instance.  He may have recently lost his fangs and can’t remember who I am, but he stirs something deep inside of me.  Is it compassion?  Loyalty?  Love, even?  I have no idea.  Doesn’t matter.  When the day comes, I will fulfill my destiny and kill Jack… again.

He is sweetest friend or hardest foe,
best angel or worst devil.
I either hate or love him so.
I can’t merely be civil.

                  Elizabeth Barrett Browning

This is how I feel about him, torn in half.  Part of me wants to save him, while the other part wants to rip into his chest with metallic claws.  Jack would understand the quote above.  He cherishes the written word as much as I do.  Perhaps if I had someone else to discuss literature with, I wouldn’t be that drawn to him.

In any case, my army is nearly done.  I am going to approach the vampires soon.  Together, we will enslave the people.  They will call us master.  They will call us gods.

YA Storytellers Fun Friday: Romantic Excerpts

Today’s Fun Friday with the YA Storytellers is all about Valentine’s Day. We’re showing off romantic excerpts and I want to share a scene between Ruby and Cooper from my second book WITCH HEARTS.

Be sure to see all the other exciting things going on with these great authors over at the YA Storytellers site!

I don’t think a lot of detail is needed to see what’s happening between Cooper and Ruby, but just in case: Courtney, Ruby’s best friend and Cooper’s little sister, was murdered by a serial killer for her witchy powers. When  the killer sets his sights on Ruby, Cooper will do anything to keep her safe, including temporarily moving into her apartment. Cooper is also a witch who has a special talent with dreams.

Hope you enjoy the romance! I’m celebrating the day of love  snowed in at home and loving every moment 🙂 Happy Valentine’s Day!

WITCH HEARTS

Coop scooted next to her, situated it so that they sat face to face, touching knees. He took one of her hands and cupped his free hand around the back of her neck. Inches from her face, he whispered, “Close your eyes.”

Ruby did so, tried to keep her breathing even. Her concentration might be shot with him this close to her. She’d never felt so aware of her own movements, her desire making every inch of her skin tingle. His warm hands on her, her eyes closed, the tension held steady as he remained where he sat. After three agonizing seconds, Ruby gave up. She leaned in, pressed her lips against his and melted. Cooper pulled her in and held her tight, deepening the kiss.

Then Ruby opened her eyes and found herself still inches away from Coop. His hands still on her neck and hand, he stared intently at her, as though nothing had happened. Then his right eyebrow raised up in a way that said he knew, but she didn’t follow. If they hadn’t kissed, had she hallucinated the whole thing?

“I just showed you one of my dreams through touch,” he said, not moving. Ruby forced her gaze away from his long eyelashes as she comprehended.

“You dreamt we kissed?”

“You’re not surprised I can show you a dream?” he asked. “I definitely thought that would be the bigger question here.”

“Oh, that part’s cool and all,” she hastily replied.

The damage done, that old smile crossed his face, his tone coy. “Do you want to kiss me?”

“No,” her answer came without thinking, “I want you to kiss me.”

Without hesitation, Cooper leaned in, pressing his lips to hers and Ruby, for lack of any other words, saw fireworks. His warm hands brushed through her hair, pulled her into him. His facial stubble scratched her skin as his lips burned a trail down her throat and back to her mouth.

A groan left him as he pulled away. “This isn’t how…I only want to protect you. I don’t know what I’d do if something happened. I can’t lose you, too.”

She ignored him, leaned in to kiss him and he pulled back further. She pursed her lips. “You can’t keep watch on me forever. You’re not responsible for me – I’m not your sister.”

“Oh, believe me,” he whispered back, his low tone sending shivers up Ruby’s spine, “I’ve always known that, now more than ever.”

His green eyes drank in every inch of her face and the fire in Ruby’s belly took over. She’d waited long enough; the words spilled from her lips before she could stop herself.

“Are you sure you want this?” she asked, a bit breathless.

“Ruby, I’ve never wanted anything more in my entire life.”

His hands were on her face as he kissed her, then quickly moved down her body. A little sigh escaped her. He responded by picking her up and carrying her straight to the bedroom.
